For this project, I created my own version of artist Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" painting, using tissue paper, oil pastels, and construction paper figures. This is a great activity to help students study other artist's work and art techniques, in order to learn about how an artist created their artwork.
Extension Art Activity: Tie this project into to Social Studies by having students research an artists' works or techniques in countries currently being taught about in class. By doing the project this way, students have a better chance of retaining the information that is being studied in class, as well as they have a tangible object to show what they've learned about. This project could also be tied into Science lessons by having students look at nature artists' works and techniques, i.e. a plant artist, and have students create their own plant artwork to help them learn the different parts of the plants being studied in science.
